T-Shirts, Tees & Polos! - What’s In Your wardrobe?
A T-shirt (T shirt or tee) (Named ‘T’ due to the shape of the garment) is a thin shirt which is pulled on over the head to cover most of the wearer's torso. A T-shirt is usually button less and collarless, with a round neck and short sleeves, although variants with buttons, long sleeves and collars are available.
Other styles of t-shirt available are the polo shirt, which is a t-shirt with a two or three-button placket, often with a breast pocket. It is often made out of a knitted cloth rather than a woven cloth called pique.
The polo has become a summer staple in men’s fashion recently, being an iconic part of the top men’s designer clothing range collections from brands such as Fred Perry and Voi .
The humble T-shirt has evolved from its origins in the 19th century. Originally a "union suit", it was cut into separate tops and bottoms. Due to its versatility, how easy it is to wash, and the fact that it is inexpensive, the T-shirt soon became the shirt of choice for young boys. This trend has then spread across industries such as the Navy, and Farming.
Trends in Men’s T-Shirts
T-Shirts were originally worn as an undershirt. Now, T-shirts can be the only item of clothing on the top half of the body. They have become a medium for self expression, with evocative messages and images being displayed through print and embroidery.
Many different types of fit and size have been developed, with different markets being aimed at - from tight muscle fit tank tops to a more baggy jersey type tee designed with comfort in mind. Different collars have also evolved, including the shawl collar, V-neck, scoop neck and polo. A popular trend in T-shirt wearing is to layer a short and longer sleeved T-shirt. This is known as "layering".
The Polo Shirt - How Do You Wear Yours?
The Polo Shirt is commonly worn down; however, it has become a fashion statement to wear up as a fashion statement rather than up as its historical use of blocking out the sun! Whatever type of t-shirt you are after, you will be sure to find a perfect summer or winter garment right here. There are hundreds to choose from in varying styles and colours, fits and brands.
